The Adelaide Strikers have recently secured a two-year contract with Brendan Doggett, a formidable express seamer, as they gear up for the upcoming BBL|13 season.

Brendan Doggett's addition to the Strikers comes on the heels of D'Arcy Short, marking him as the second Indigenous cricketer to join the Strikers' roster for the forthcoming BBL season. Having spent six seasons and participated in 41 matches with the Brisbane Heat and Sydney Thunder, the 29-year-old athlete from Rockhampton brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Notably, Doggett has claimed an impressive 40 wickets in the BBL, with his best bowling performance reaching 5-35, while maintaining an average of 26.87.

The name Brendan Doggett is not unfamiliar within the South Australian cricket community, as he previously became associated with the region when he signed with the Redbacks in advance of the 2021/22 season. Doggett's decision to sign with Adelaide Strikers aligns seamlessly with his connection to South Australia, considering it as his home base. The move is particularly favorable as it allows him to remain in one place with his young family throughout the year. Moreover, joining a squad where he is acquainted with both players and staff members adds to his enthusiasm. Doggett's excitement also stems from the prospect of playing at the bustling Adelaide Oval.

While Doggett's cricketing journey has been characterized by promise and potential, he has faced his share of challenges, including injuries that affected his quad, lower back, and hip. Despite these setbacks, he concluded the 2022/23 season on a positive note, with a clean bill of health. Adelaide Strikers' head coach, Jason Gillespie, is confident in Doggett's abilities, praising his work ethic and viewing him as a valuable asset to the team. Gillespie highlighted Doggett's remarkable commitment and the valuable perspective he brings as a seasoned seamer.

The move to secure Brendan Doggett reflects the Strikers' strategic approach in building a formidable lineup for BBL|13. This signing marks the emergence of an impressive trio of Indigenous cricketers, including Short and Boland, who are contributing to the diversification and strengthening of various teams in the league. Adelaide Strikers' BBL|13 journey is set to begin with a match against the Brisbane Heat at the iconic Adelaide Oval on December 9, an event eagerly anticipated by fans and enthusiasts.
