Sydney Sixers' Ashleigh Gardner Claims Two Awards at 2022-23 Cricket Australia State Cricket Awards

Updated: Jun 9, 2023

Sydney Sixers star Ashleigh Gardner has won two out of nine individual and team awards for the 2022-23 Cricket Australia State Cricket Awards following a remarkable domestic season. Gardner's outstanding performances over the past 12 months earned her the third Lord's Taverners Indigenous Cricketer of the Year Award.

As the Player of the Tournament at the 2023 ICC T20 World Cup, Gardner was an integral part of Australia's women's team that secured a record sixth T20 title in South Africa. Her exceptional performance, including a match-winning five-wicket haul against New Zealand in Australia's opening game, set the tone for the tournament. Moreover, she played an instrumental role with both bat and ball in the final against South Africa at Newlands.

Gardner was also named the Weber WBBL|08 Player of the Tournament and scored 339 runs at an average of 28.25 to go with 23 wickets from 15 matches. This season, she has taken out the Lord's Taverners Indigenous Cricketer of the Year Award for the third time, having previously won it in the 2014-15 and 2019-20 seasons.

Sixers BBL wicketkeeper/batter Josh Philippe also won an award, the Marsh One-Day Cup Player of the Year gong for his native Western Australia.

CA Head of Cricket Operations, Peter Roach, said:

“The 2022-23 domestic season has been a great success and we congratulate all award winners on their outstanding performances.

“It is timely to say a big thank you to all players, coaches, support staff, match officials and administration staff who all came together to ensure that we had strong, competitive and vibrant domestic competitions – competitions that have always been and will always be vital to Australia presenting strong national teams.”
